Members agree to represent the Legion courteously, professionally, and responsibly at all times while in costume. We are an inclusive, equal-opportunity, and non-discriminatory club.
gavelLegal & Safety
Members must comply with all local, regional, and national laws. The Legion reserves the right to deny or revoke membership based on criminal history, particularly violent crimes or crimes against children.
visibilityTrooping Etiquette
- The Magic: Members acknowledge they portray Star Wars characters by authorization; maintain the "illusion" for fans and children.
- Respect the IP: Members have no claim to the copyright or intellectual property of Lucasfilm Ltd..
- Spotters: Always follow the guidance of handlers or "spotters" to ensure safety while vision is restricted by a helmet.
- Stay In Character: Members agree to wear their costumes in accordance with the participation requirements set by the Legion. Maintain a professional bearing—no sitting, smoking, or phone use in public view.

assignment_indStep 1: What is required to join?
Members must be 18 years of age or older and own a high-quality costume representing any character conforming to our approval statement.
Under 18? Check out the Galactic Academy for younger cadets.
Hero Characters? For Jedi or X-Wing pilots, visit the Rebel Legion. -
buildStep 2: How do I get a costume?
Generally speaking, our members make their own costumes. To make it easier to get help, the 501st has formed Detachments focused on particular costumes.
NOTE: Star Wars costumes that are commercially available in stores or online may not be acceptable for membership! Consult your GML before purchasing a retail costume.

camera_altStep 4: I've got my costume, now what?
Our local GML will need to verify your qualifications and will ask for validation pictures. Follow these standards for your first try:
- Submit pictures of yourself alone against a plain background (no convention photos).
- Provide photos with your helmet/mask both ON and OFF.
- Include full-length views from the front, back, and both sides.
- Ensure adequate lighting and high-resolution for detail inspection.
- Do not wear non-canon accessories, jewelry, or glasses.
- Ensure blasters or lightsabers conform to the weapons policy.

sendStep 5: Submitting your Application
Once the GML confirms your suit is complete, fill out the online application.
Upon approval, you will receive confirmation via e-mail and your unique Legion ID will be assigned. Please note that review may take several weeks.
